significant risks. Opioids are chemicals that identify acute and chronic pains and are mostly used in cancer treatment and postsurgery. Opioids are known to always be synthesized either out of opium poppy or through chemical methods. Although
opioids are very effective pain relievers, they pose a dual risk of addiction, dependence, and occurrence of overdoses as they
are a major challenge to the public health. This is a review of the history, pharmacological significance, and mechanism of
action of opioids, and their multifaceted use in contemporary medicine. It also addresses the changing situation of an opioid
use, including the progress of new innovations in the form of biased agonists, gene therapy, vaccines, and non-opioid
formulations to manage pain. Effective pain control and the reduction of misuse are the key elements that contribute to patient
outcomes. The paper at hand is intended to shed some light on the pharmacology of opioids, addiction, and new approaches to
the opioid use disorder and chronic pain treatment.
<Email>gadhamsettinagalokesh2003@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>16</volume><issue>1</issue><year>2026</year><keyword>Opioids, Management of pain, Addiction, Biased Agonists, Non-opioid Alternatives.</keyword><AUTHORS>Naga Lokesh G1*, Ekamsh P1, Varun R1, Srinivas K</AUTHORS><afflication>Pharm.D, V Year Student, Department of Pharmacy Practice, KLR Pharmacy College, Paloncha, Telangana, India</afflication></Article></Articles>
